This biographical drama presents major events in the life of D.S. Senanayake, the beloved Sri Lankan leader who stood against British rule over his country. Dedicated to the concept of nonviolent resistance, D.S. Senanayake is initially dismissed by English officials, but eventually he and his cause move Sri Lanka towards independence. The non-chronological narrative explores D.S. Senanayake’s personal and political life, touching on his childhood, youth, adult life and political triumphs, specially his struggle to gain independence for Sri Lanka from Great Britain. D.S. Senanayake is seen as a child born in late 19th century, to a wealthy aristocratic family driven by conservative and nationalist values, and growing up as a stubborn troublemaker, a temperamental young man and as an audacious politician and an inspiring leader. With the nation embroiled in British imperialism, D.S. Senanayake brings the full measure of his passion, humanity and political skill to what would become his defining legacy: becoming founding father of independent Sri Lanka. Having great courage, acumen and moral fortitude, D.S. Senanayake pushes forward to compel the British and those who oppose him, to aim toward a greater good for every citizen of Sri Lanka. After finally becoming the first Prime Minister of independent Sri Lanka, he is met with his untimely demise in 1952, as a result of an injury suffered while horseback riding, sending a whole nation into mourning.
